Turfing & Seeding

About Our Turfing Service

A new lawn can completely transform the look and feel of a garden, and at First Choice Landscaping we make the process straightforward, affordable, and stress-free. Our turfing and seeding service covers everything from removing and disposing of the existing surface, preparing the soil to the correct depth and tilth, and sourcing quality turf or grass seed suited to your garden's conditions.

We use only freshly cut, premium-grade turf from reputable East Midlands suppliers, ensuring good establishment and a beautiful finish. Before laying, we carry out thorough ground preparation including rotavating, raking, and levelling to create an even, well-drained seedbed. Once laid, we advise you on watering and initial mowing to give your new lawn the very best start. For gardens where time is less critical, we also offer a seeding service using high-quality grass seed mixes tailored to your lawn's light levels, use, and drainage.

Why Choose First Choice Landscaping?

How It Works

1

Ground Preparation

We remove the existing surface, rotavate the soil, remove stones and weeds, add pre-seeding fertiliser, and rake to a fine, level tilth ready for turfing or seeding.

2

Turfing or Seeding

We lay rolls of freshly cut turf in a staggered brick-bond pattern, or apply grass seed evenly across the prepared area, depending on the agreed approach.

3

Aftercare Guidance

We provide clear written instructions on watering frequency, the first mow, and ongoing care to help your new lawn establish firmly and quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does new turf take to establish?
In normal conditions, new turf knits to the soil within two to four weeks. You can usually take the first light mow after two to three weeks. Full establishment and the ability to use the lawn normally typically takes around six to eight weeks.
Is turfing or seeding better for my garden?
Turfing gives you an instant result and can be done at most times of year (avoiding frozen ground). Seeding is more economical for large areas and allows you to choose a specific grass mix, but takes longer to establish and is best sown in spring or autumn.
What time of year is best for laying turf?
Turf can be laid at almost any time of year, provided the ground isn't frozen or waterlogged. The ideal times are autumn and spring when temperatures are mild and rainfall is more reliable, reducing the amount of manual watering required.
